Throwback Thursday

Let me just start with this:

I love these two ❤

I just can’t get enough of Bentley’s grumpy old-man face and Kenna’s intense eyes.

Kelsey-174

This photo shoot was supposed to be one of jumping in puddles and playing in mud, but the Oregon weather surprised (again) and blessed us with sunshine instead.

Kelsey-113

I chased these rascals around for a couple hours and came away with gold.

That belly!! And the grumpy face! AH – too much cute!

Not to mention this little doll blowing sparkle into life like a fairy!

I’m missing these 2 cuties ❤  These will forever be some of my favorite photos!

Happy Birthday, Clyde!

I hope your fifth birthday is as fun as your third birthday was!

Photo of the Week!

Just because this woman is my other half.

There’s a special bond when you’ve been friends for 17 years. More like sisters than friends ❤

New Opportunities and Favorite Memories

I have totally neglected my website as of late and I feel terrible! I have good reason, though:

I’m a nanny! This is my first week caring for the cute kiddos, so I’ve been trying to fall into a routine. I get to hang out with a toddler all day and read Frozen books, swing, color and decipher babble. 😉

I’m also a fresh part of a really cool new app called KKTalkee, which helps people in China learn better English through live video broadcasting. Basically, I deliver a bunch of content and then answer any questions and encourage them to speak. I’m really loving this because those who know me well know I’m a total stickler for grammar and spelling, and I’m also following in my grandma’s teaching footsteps – just in a modern way.

It’s been a week of firsts! Glad to have the nerves shaken off and ready to grind 🙂

When Moo.com has a sale, I always take advantage. It seems like these sales happen right as I’m running out of business cards – win! Anyways, I was taking advantage of this sale last night, which meant perusing my photo catalog to pick out my favorite photos from the last few months, so I can print them onto my new set of business cards. It sounds silly but I hardly ever look back at my work, so going through all of these photos totally brought back memories. And made me homesick.

In no particular order, here are a few of my favorites from last fall:

Clair!-110.jpg
Seriously missing Clair and our pho dates. Nobody understands my obsession with Cilantro like this beauty.
Clair&Hayden-239
Are they the absolute cutest or what?!
Clair&Hayden-183
This is hands down one of my absolute favorite shoots, ever. I had so much fun documenting their love. I don’t think they could be anymore photogenic!
Clair&Hayden-258
There are so many amazing shots from this session, it was incredibly hard to narrow it down even this much!
Clair&Hayden-227
Can you tell I love sun flares?
VTeam-15
There are few things in this world that bring more joy than teaching one of your favorite things to a group of young ladies who are dedicated and determined. Oh, and absolutely hysterical. This is the 2015 RHS Varsity team. Shout-out to my JV & JV2 girls also ❤
V_OC-95
I could do an entire pack of cards with just volleyball action shots (like I did last time). Hard work pays off and it shows.
Kadyn-57
These ladies also clean up pretty darn well 🙂 Kadyn asked me to take her senior photos and they turned out beautifully, with her bubbly personality shining right through!
DrewSP-21
Speaking of seniors, my brother is one and graduates in a few months! WHAT?! Time seriously flies, people.
DrewSP-95
What happened to the little cutie playing rec basketball? He’s 6’4″ now, an entire foot taller than me. It is so cool, yet so weird, watching siblings grow up.
Kate&Cass-77
Kassidy and Kate are the cutest sisters ever. We had a ton of fun during this shoot!
Kate&Cass-89
Sisters by birth, friends by choice, together for infinity.

Kate&Cass-118
This is easily my favorite photo from their photoshoot. I don’t know what it is about this one but I just love it.
Peck_Birthdays-91
Last but not least, this little ham! I’ve been taking his photos since he was about 3 months old. It was so special for me to be able to see him grow and to document it. I even got his first steps!

I think I’ll look back through my work more often. This was just what I needed to cure my homesickness ❤ I can’t wait to start networking here so I can get some more amazing clients!

Body Art

I’m a huge fan of tattoos and have two myself. I think it’s absolutely rad to boast your inspiration, favorite memories and tributes right there on your body. To be able to look down in a moment of weakness and see something that will give you strength and push you forward? That is awesome. Not all tattoos are created equal – those that are tattooed while drunk in Vegas may not have so much meaning – but when an artist can portray what you want, it’s magic.

Bobby had some more work done on his newest piece this weekend, and I jumped at the opportunity to photograph it.

TattooSession1-4

My husband is a huge fan of this painting called “Nighthawks” by Edward Hopper. Instead of simply getting the painting, he asked his artist, Raquel, to add the twist of a zombie apocalypse – mixing classic with modern in an epic work of art.

TattooSession1-22

He’s spent a total of 15 hours in the chair at Broken Clover Tattoo, watching his imagination come to life.

TattooSession1-18

I absolutely love that his artist is female. She truly has an eye and is incredibly good at what she does.

TattooSession1-32

She’s also fun to watch in that she’s meticulous and careful, thoughtful in what she does with that needle.

TattooSession1-15

And she clearly enjoys her work – a mark of a good artist, doing what she loves because she loves it, not for fame or fortune. Though I wouldn’t be surprised to see her making big bucks in the future!

TattooSession1-8

I wanted to make this post as much about her as it is about her work because art is often a reflection of the artists themselves. This certainly holds true for me and the photos I take.

TattooSession1-7

This is my favorite shot from the 4-hour session. I haven’t figured out why quite yet, but it definitely speaks to me.

Puppy Love

Okay, so they aren’t puppies anymore.. But they sure act like it!

NanaTrip-30

Cate (on the left with her stick), and Kala are doggie BFFs. Kala is a Flat-Coated Retriever (who doesn’t retrieve), and Cate is a Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog who will happily retrieve for hours on end.

NanaTrip-42

Obviously “Stick” is her all-time favorite game, while Kala would much rather watch a football game all snuggled up on the couch with her favorite humans.

NanaTrip-11

Bobby and I can’t wait to get a pup after we move! While living in Kansas this last year, we would drive 20 minutes to the nearest Petco and PetSmart, to spend hours loving on animals waiting to be adopted.. I think we need a pet. 😂

NanaTrip-40

Both Kala and Cate were rescued – Kala from a dumpster (totally not kidding) and Cate from being euthanized at a too-full animal shelter. If you or your family are interested in getting a pet, please rescue! Also research your breeds – it is always better to have a dog that fits your lifestyle rather than your ego.

Freezing Time

When I think about it, my job is really to freeze time. To capture a fleeting moment that we’ll never get back, and then turn it into a memory that we can relive over and over. I had plenty of opportunities for just that with Clair and Hayden, so here are some more of my favorite moments frozen in time.

Their love is absolutely tangible. Don’t these just make your heart smile?
